Body of missing Texas man found in Sky Lakes Wilderness
The body of a Texas man who went missing earlier this summer was found in a remote part of the Sky Lakes Wilderness last weekend.
A deputy medical examiner was flown in by helicopter to confirm the body found in the wilderness outside Prospect Saturday as that of 35-year-old Kirk E. Jones of San Antonio, according to news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office released Thursday evening.
Jones was last seen alive the morning of June 3, when surveillance cameras at his apartment in Texas showed him leaving on his black 2017 Yamaha motorcycle, according to an earlier news report.
According to a news story out of KSAT in San Antonio, his family reported Jones missing after he failed to show up for a family board-game night in Texas that evening.
The search for Jones in Southern Oregon began June 13, when a hiker found Jones’ motorcycle just outside the Sky Lakes Wilderness Area.
Bow hunters reportedly found Jones’ body Saturday on a ridge about a mile and a half east of where the motorcycle was found. The medical examiner’s office identified the body Thursday.
Police also found clothing near Jones’ body that included a black motorcycle jacket, a motorcycle helmet and a backpack.
An Oregon State Police forensic pathologist ruled the cause and manner of Jones’ death as undetermined, according to the sheriff’s office, but police said they do not suspect foul play.
