Memorial service set for Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy
A memorial service for Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Harmon will be held on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in the Community Conference Hall, Roseburg.
This service will be open to the public.
A procession of family and emergency vehicles will precede the service. It will travel from the Douglas County Courthouse to the Fairgrounds through Harvard Avenue, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Harmon, 53, died at home while off-duty on Oct. 26, following a sudden cardiac medical event.
He began serving with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office on March of 2003 as a reserve deputy. In April of 2010, he accepted a full-time job offer in the Corrections Division where he worked until his death.
Harmon also served as work crew supervisor from 2017 to 2019.
Harmon had previously served as a reserve officer with the Oakland Police Department from 1996-1997.
He will receive police honors at his service.
