The VFW in Jacksonville received several thousand dollars from a school in the Medford School District.

Ruch Outdoor Community School, 156 Upper Applegate Road, Jacksonville, passed a check worth $6,525 to representatives from the local VFW post Dec. 15, according to officials with the school district.

Julie Barry, principal of Ruch, issued a prepared statement on the donation, prefacing it with the fact that the school has itself received “an outpour(ing) of support” from community members and organizations over the years.

“In our efforts to instill in our students empathy and the importance of ‘giving back,’ students and staff decided to honor our veterans and dedicate (half) of our monies raised to show our appreciation for their service,” she wrote. “I believe students demonstrated even more energy and enthusiasm for participating in our annual Jog-A-Thon knowing we were helping others by doing so. This could very well be a new tradition for Ruch Outdoor Community School to continue showing our appreciation for all the support shown to us.”

The Jog-A-Thon was held in November to honor Veterans Day.
