Southern Oregon Humane Society pauses pet adoptions

Citing staffing challenges, the Southern Oregon Humane Society is temporarily closing its doors and halting pet adoptions, according to a post on its Facebook page Wednesday.

During the closure, staff will still be available by phone during the shelter’s regular hours of noon to 5 p.m., but adoptions "will be paused until we reopen,” the post states.

According to an email from Ryan Johnson, SoHumane’s donor relations manager, the nonprofit does not know how long the closure will last, but it will issue updates about a reopening date on its Facebook page as the situation progresses.

There were 40 dogs and 25 cats under SoHumane’s care as of Wednesday, according to Johnson.

“During the closure we still have staff and volunteers providing top-level care to the animals that are at our facility and in foster care,” Johnson said in the email.
