Medford Railroad Park reopens Sunday

Mail Tribune/file photo Medford Railroad Park opens for the season Sunday.

The city of Medford’s Railroad Park, which is operated by four nonprofit clubs, will launch its 2022 season Sunday.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Sundays of each month, April through October.

The park features rides for kids and adults on small trains over more than a mile of track, historical full-size railroad equipment and model trains.

The park operated for part of 2021 after COVID-19 pandemic precautions lifted. The clubs kept equipment in shape with donations from the public through a Go-Fund Me online fund drive. The drive continues for general support of the park. In addition, each club will accept donations in their area of the park.

After some club members dropped out during the pandemic, the four clubs are encouraging new people to sign up during the opening.

“This is a hobby we’d like to share,” said Tam Moore, secretary of the park’s board of governors. “The pandemic has taken a toll on our members. We invite those interested in trains, large or small, to chat with folks in our clubs and consider joining in the fun.”

The four clubs are Rogue Valley Model Railroad Club, Southern Oregon Railway Historical Society, Southern Oregon Live Steamers and Medford Garden Railroaders.
