RVTD’s Go By Bike Week offers prizes, meetups

Southern Oregon bicyclists who log bike trips this week on a Rogue Valley Transit District could win prizes that range from coffee cards to a free tuneup for their favorite pedal-powered ride.

Rogue Valley Transit District’s Go By Bike Week — going on now through May 22 — features ways for riders to connect with other cyclists, along with chances for riders to win prizes valued between $10 to $100 for businesses that include Dutch Bros, Get’N’ Gear Sporting Goods, Cycle Sport and REI Co-op, according to RVTD’s website.

Local cyclists who commit to replacing at least one car trip with a bike trip between now and this weekend will be entered for a chance to win a $50 gift card to REI, and cyclists who log at least 10 trips through the program will be entered to win a $100 REI gift card.

Local bike riders who long at least one trip online by the end of the weekend could win one of 16 prizes that include 10 $10 Dutch Bros. Coffee gift cards, two $25 gift cards to Ruby’s Restaurant in Medford, two $25 gift cards to Get ‘N Gear Sporting Goods in Ashland or two bike tune-up gift certificates, each valued at $85, from Ashland Cycle Sport.

Participants can also win a free go By Bike Week T-shirts if they arrive early enough to a series of in-person meetups and events in Ashland and Medford this week. Each of the events include free bike safety checks and free safety gear.

Bike Socials are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Gils of Ashland, 175 N. Pioneer St., Ashland, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Common Block Brewing Co., 315 E. Fifth St., Medford. Experienced bike mechanics will teach free, basic bike maintenance skills during the events. Beginner cyclists are encouraged to bring their bike for tuning techniques and chances to socialize with other riders.

Riders can also learn bike tuning skills and get a free bike safety check if they ride to the Rogue Valley Growers and Crafters Market from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, for RVTD’s Pedal to the Park event.

Bike commuters can celebrate National Bike to Work Day in Medford with free breakfast refreshments from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, in front of Medford City Hall at 411 W. Eighth St., Medford.
