Medford woman killed in I-5 crash in Yreka
A 29-year-old Medford woman was killed Tuesday in a single-car crash on Interstate 5 southbound near Yreka, California.
At 3:18 p.m., the California Highway Patrol Yreka Communications Center received a 911 call of a crash at the Yreka Creek Bridge. The caller reported that the vehicle ran off the road and would be difficult to see from the freeway, according to a CHP Facebook post.
Workers at the Klamath National Forest building heard the crash and found the vehicle in the Yreka Creek Greenway, the post said.
Yreka police, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Mount Shasta Ambulance, Cal Fire-Siskiyou Unit, Yreka Caltrans and Yreka CHP officers attempted to assist the driver, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, police said. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
