Tip of the Week

Turkey hunters looking to bag a bird for Thanksgiving need to employ different tactics than they would in spring, when stealth is at a premium and good calling is a must.

Fall turkeys are in large flocks and not very responsive to mating calls. The best bets are to ambush or scatter the flock, then try the lost call as the birds regroup. Males and females are available in the fall season.

The fall turkey season runs through December, and tags are still available on a first-come, first-served basis at local licensing outlets.
