Woodstoves cause concern

It is with growing concern that I see more and more people installing woodstoves in their homes and exclaiming how great they are!

Yes, woodstoves feel great on the inside of your home, but let’s examine their overall impact. In a rising era of smoke-choked summers, spring, fall and winter are wonderful times to open your windows for fresh air. This isn’t possible if your neighbor upwind has their wonderful woodstove cranking smoke out.

Yes, its true drier wood burns more efficiently, and some stoves are more efficient burners than others, but smoke/carbon is still being released. Can you imagine if everyone heated their homes with woodstoves? We would turn back the clocks to the smoke-choked winters of the 1980s. Wouldn’t that be great to go along with our smoke-choked summers!

I’m not saying they should be outlawed, just that if you have one and you love it, don’t tell everyone how wonderful they are, because they just aren’t.

Circle K question

Steve McNeal (Letters, Nov. 25) asks if the owners of Andretti Petroleum and Colvin Oil/GP Energy would like a gas station and car wash in their backyards.

The question he should be asking is, would Mario Andretti, the Andretti Petroleum group chairman, like a gas station, car wash, store and coffee kiosk at the entrance to his Andretti Winery in Napa, California? With all of his race cars it would be a great fit.

Protest timing interesting

It’s interesting that the group of “Impeach Now” protesters at Vogel Plaza in Medford held their vigil on one of the days the impeachment hearings were held.

Of course, this particular group have their minds made up and know exactly how they want the impeachment process to turn out. In fact, the “swamp dwellers” in Washington began talking about impeachment just minutes after the inauguration.

With that in mind, it’s not surprising that Annie Langill (Nov. 20) describes her unofficial poll at the Vogel Plaza protest as being overwhelmingly in favor of impeachment. This reminds me of the polling that was done before the 2016 election that predicted a landslide victory for Hillary Clinton.

This group of people wake up every morning thinking President Trump must be guilty of something and they just have to figure out what it is.
