Rejection of science

The ongoing rejection of science in favor of alternative facts, conspiracy hoaxes and lies is a threat to us all. Consistent science denial has been achieved by Republicans at all levels, from the White House, through Congress, to state governors’ mansions, to state legislatures and supporters with promotional yard signs.

A clear consensus exists among infectious disease specialists in medical science that we could control this pandemic by wearing a mask when in public and reducing physical contact with and proximity to others. Yet, the pro-death forces of Republicanism demand that rather than control the disease, we promote it by increasing contact and throwing our children and families into harm’s way.

Of course, the same deniers of medical science also deny climate science, ultimately placing all life at risk.

This is insane. Let’s hope we can survive the anti-science mania sweeping the nation, and remove these pro-death Republicans from office.

I became a citizen some 70 years ago: a post-war idealist, seeing in the U.S. a leader of democracy, with a new-found awareness of the need for world-wide cooperation. My rosy glasses have darkened over the years: Cold War, PACs, TV posturing have not helped.

Then, I saw people voluntarily abide by social distancing, wearing face masks, “by the people, for the people.” Social responsibility: the pillar of democracy.

Let’s persist! Forget the political monkeyshines, the people rule.

Biden name-calling

You on the right/tea bag side of the ledger and your name-calling of the left/Biden is not winning me over. Where’s your argument?

Liberal cities have lost control? That’d be fascism in my book: government agents tear-gassing away from federal buildings. Federal employees with neither agency names nor name tags. And President Trump, clearly a leader who’s out of control: can’t keep it straight regarding the coronavirus, says the economy is back (only if you’re of the 50% in it and the market stays up, and who knows about that), his rolling back pollution controls (keep companies going; heck, with people dying from asthma, COPD) and climate help (notice how weather is way different?)

And Biden with politicianitis? Man, where’s Trump? For him, all politics. Diplomats ousted from Chinese embassies, deaths allowed from corona (the economy, stupid), raving about the border wall (“indestructible” thing got leveled by hurricane). Oh, let’s take off the yoke the world imposes by bailing from WHO and NATO and nuclear arms agreement with Russia (Putin, old buddy, want to ruin USA?).

Let us have a reasonable Biden. Trump bucks the system, gives back money to companies and millionaires and can’t feel people’s pain.
