Racism cloaked in pseudoscience
Michael Barone’s column on June 25, “Charles Murray’s two uncomfortable truths”, is racism cloaked in (sloppy) scientific method, effectively concluding that low cognition and high criminality are essential racial characteristics rather than the result of decades of racial discrimination. Murray’s book attempts to flip racism on its head by suggesting disparities in employment and education are caused by racial traits rather than denial of opportunity, a tired theme dating back to Jim Crow. But Murray doesn’t bother to notice that improvements in cognition and behavior have aligned with efforts to reduce discrimination. Barone predictably rolls out tropes on critical race theory, etc. but these pseudoscientific racial theories are, of course, fodder to the identity politics of the extreme right wing.
The right to vote
I suggest the following be added as an amendment to the Oregon Constitution:
The people of Oregon have the right and the responsibility to choose those they want to represent them in the Oregon government including city, county, and state. The people shall choose state representatives, state senators, governor and all other elected offices through the vote. No law or other regulation shall be passed that infringes on, interferes with, or restricts in any way, the right of the people to vote.
I suggest the following be asded as an amendment to the U.S. Constitution:
The people of the United States have the right and the responsibility to choose those they want to represent them in the United States government. The people shall choose congressional representatives, senators, president and vice president through the vote. Individual states and Congress shall not institute or pass any law that infringes on, interferes with or restricts in any way, the right of the people to vote.

Thank you for the article by George Will in the June 24 Mail Tribune about Dana Stangel-Plowe. Hats off to the brave New Jersey teacher that quit her job out of refusal to support the school’s
critical race theory agenda. Why has it taken so many years for the CRT teachings to finally be exposed ?
