Oak Knoll Golf Course
Oak Knoll has been a part of the Ashland community for nearly 100 years. It is 70 acres of open space, as important as the Shakespeare Festival, Lithia Park and SOU, to golfers and non-golfers alike.
I have been a member for over 20 years. It is heartbreaking to see the dry fairways and cracked, brown greens. It is time for those in charge to buckle down and find solutions to the problems of water and budget. We cannot let this part of our community disappear.
Separate government, schools
I rarely agree with Gene Lyons’ commentaries on the opinion page, but I thought his criticism of the Supreme Court okaying prayer on the 50-yard line was accurate, that tax money should not be used to support any particular religion.
Where I part company with Gene and probably most citizens is that I think there should be separation of government and education as well. Education and morality do belong together. Atheistic government education, inherently immoral itself, is hugely fueling societal chaos. Since government involvement in education prevents genuine morality from being taught, I say it is time to get government completely out of education. Government education is the 10th plank of the Communist Manifesto. Think about that and why separating government from education is a superior way to go on many levels.
The other day I was walking over to Shop ‘n’ Kart when I stepped on a “shadow comb.” It was made by the sun shining on a bank of mailboxes.
The mailboxes were separated from each other by only a few inches. That’s how this huge “shadow comb” was created on the sidewalk.
Alas, I was unable to pick it up; I wanted to comb the clouds.
