Peace Meal should stay
I am very disturbed by the news that the Friday Peace Meal is being denied use of Pioneer Hall on Fridays, despite having a contract through the end of the year.
This most vulnerable portion of our population has had a challenging year already, and it seems unconscionable to kick them out of the single place that has remained stable just so paying tenants can use the space.
Jobs for Justice has a contract in place. If it is about money, I and others have donated funds and they are willing to pay rent for the space.
The Peace Meal is without question the most humane, compassionate and consistent gift the citizens of Ashland provide for homeless and financially challenged members of our community.
I will lose a lot of faith in our city and our leaders if they are not allowed to remain or given a comparable spot for this important service.
