Support Fairness Act

Did you know it’s currently legal for employers to ask employees to sign a nondisclosure agreement related to harassment or discrimination? This means if you are harassed in the workplace, you could be legally prevented from talking about your harassment to others.

The Oregon Workplace Fairness Act (SB 726) will right this wrong. It works to prevent discrimination against employees who speak out about their harassment by banning employers from asking for nondisclosure agreements or no-rehire agreements from victim employees.

No-rehire agreements disproportionately affect those living in rural communities as there may be only one employer for their career field in the area. This bill applies to every employer across this state and will have the Bureau of Labor and Industries create model policy so that the protections Oregon’s workers need are clear to everyone.

Sen. Jeff Golden and Rep. Pam Marsh recognize this bill’s importance and support it — I urge other lawmakers to do the same. Seize this opportunity to be a leader in changing the way sexual harassment and other discrimination is handled in the workplace!
