He doesn’t understand

Our president just announced that corporations are hereby ordered to stop doing business with China. Our president seems to not quite understand what socialism is, beyond the Republican’s weapon-word du jour to taunt Democrats with.

When the government controls corporations, that, by definition, is socialism. Our leader is apparently oblivious to this little detail, citing an obscure 1977 rule out of context. More worrisome than his lack of basic civics knowledge is his recent attempt to disrupt the world’s economic balance with rage-filled Twitter outbursts. Is it OK to just ignore him when he says nutty things like this or will we get arrested for disobeying the president? Inquiring minds want to know.

I understand that there are issues with our China trade imbalance, but it’s hard to see this as a meaningful strategy. Is this what America voted for?

Thanks to food donors

Ahh, summer. Time for fun in the sun with family and friends. Traveling before school starts up again. Visiting that national park you haven’t made it to yet or exploring a new city or country.

And continuing to help others who need it.

On Aug. 10, our donors for the Ashland Food Project once again showed up, donating more than 26,000 pounds of nonperishable food to the Ashland Emergency Food Bank. Though many were out of town, they still made arrangements to have their green bags delivered in some way. Thank you yet again for showing how easy it is to make a difference.
