Vaccine event was flawless

I want to thank all the volunteers including the National Guard and health care workers who ran a flawless vaccination event at the Jackson County Expo last week.

What I anticipated to be a two-hour process was only 50 minutes including the 20-minute wait time in the parking lot in case of an allergic reaction to the Pfizer dose. As long as the paperwork was done beforehand, the traffic flowed smoothly and there were plenty of very friendly and helpful volunteers to guide you along.

This should be a model for other vaccination events.

Hold them accountable

For weeks I pondered whether the best way to unify the nation would be to avoid further legal action against Trump. Then Trump’s effort to overturn a fair democratic election with lies emerged, as did Jan. 6. Ignoring the destructive behavior of Trump and his followers would be more divisive than holding them accountable.

Trump and his traitors orchestrated an insurrection that cost five lives and extensive carnage as the Nazi, racist and white nationalist terrorists looted the Capitol in search of perceived enemies to capture, try and execute. Chief among these was the vice president.

This was not a peaceful First Amendment protest; this was a violent attempted coup against our democracy. The idea that treason (at worst) or sedition (at best) should go unpunished is unconscionable.

Anyone present on the Capitol grounds and party to this action should have known what they were endorsing since the plans were obvious to everyone for weeks. These terrorists should be prosecuted, convicted and imprisoned. Then we can discuss reconciliation.

Furthermore, members of Congress who abetted this action by falsely claiming there was massive fraud in the November election should be expelled from Congress and precluded from ever holding public office again.

An unethical spear-carrier

Our brand-new Congressman, Cliff Bentz, has proven himself to be an unethical spear-carrier for the anti-constitutional forces in our nation. I urge him to resign due to his vote objecting to the certification of electoral votes from Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania’s certified votes had withstood over a dozen legal challenges in court. Still, Bentz says he based his vote to object on concerns over the “constitutionality” of Pennsylvania counting their late mail ballots. Those 9,428 ballots were never counted!

Even if they had all counted for Trump, Biden still would have won the state by over 71,000 votes. If Bentz and his colleagues had been successful in their baseless objection, it would have doomed Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes to the whim of its Republican state legislature (i.e. Trump), thereby disenfranchising 3,458,229 Pennsylvania voters. And who was trying to steal this election?

Bentz’s vote to object to certification was an attempt to overturn the will of the people, was an attack on our democracy, and was a violation of his oath to uphold the Constitution. As an experienced state legislator for 12 years, and an attorney, he knew better — he simply catered to those misguided, gullible citizens who’ve swallowed whole Trump’s unending lies.

Vaccine event was exceptional

I had the pleasure of being inoculated this past weekend at the Expo. The organization from the moment we entered, being directed where to go in our car, having the necessary paperwork available, the medical staff, first responders on hand, above all the kindness toward my wife and me was beyond nearly anything I have experienced in my long life.

I want to thank everyone from the planning, organizing, acquiring, setting up, and so on. It was highly impressive — dare I say the highlight of this past difficult year. To anyone who had anything to do with the process, I thank you.
