Stella Wright - Century Club
Stella (Pellerin) Wright of Medford, celebrated her 100th birthday with a gathering of friends and relatives in the banquet room at the Red Lion Hotel in Medford on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Guests at the celebration traveled from Nova Scotia, Montreal, Calgary, and Larry's River, Canada; and from Connecticut, Florida, California, Washington and Oregon to honor Stella.
Each brought their own special memories and shared amazement for Stella's youthful appearance, charm and energy. Born in Larry's River, Nova Scotia, on Nov. 6, 1906, she was the third of 14 children. In 1936, she moved to Boston, and two years later married Milton Wesley Wright.
Stella and Milton had two children, Ellen Notehelfer, currently of Seattle, and Pauline Afseth of Ashland. In 1995, she lost her beloved husband and companion, who passed away following a brief battle with pneumonia.
Stella continues to enjoy her lifelong love for cooking, and her grandchildren all swear that no one can make apple pie quite like grandma. Her other pursuits include reading, using her computer, correspondence and enjoying good chocolate.
Family and friends agree that it's the chocolate that keeps her young.
