  • The Friends of the Jacksonville Library will hold a book sale today through Monday in the Naverson Room of the Jacksonville Branch Library, 340 W. C St., Jacksonville. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday; and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday. Call 899-1725.
  • The three ensembles of the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon will perform at 7:30 p.m. today at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford, and at 3 p.m. Sunday at Southern Oregon University's Music Recital Hall, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Tickets at $10, $5 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at Paddington Station, Ashland, and Larry's Music in Medford and Grants Pass. Tickets for the Nov. 10 performance in Medford are also available through the Craterian Theater's box office.


  • Two parades are scheduled for Veterans Day on Sunday: The Eagle Point Veterans Day parade begins at 10 a.m. in downtown Eagle Point. Following the parade, Eagle Point will honor all veterans and dedicate a Vietnam plaque near the covered bridge. At 11 a.m., the Medford Veterans Day parade will be held along Main Street from Hawthorne Street to Oakdale Avenue.
  • St. Vincent de Paul will hold a Madame Alexander Doll Show as a fund-raiser for the food pantry from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 2424 N. Pacific Highway, Medford. General admission is $1 and admission if free for children 12 and younger. Call 772-3828.


  • Free evening story times, geared toward kids 2-6, are held every Monday at the following times and locations: 6 p.m. at the Central Library's Children's Department, 205 S. Central Ave., Medford, and 6:30 p.m. at the Ashland Library's Children's Department, 410 Siskiyou Blvd. Call 774-8678.
  • The annual Young Artists Piano Competition will culminate in a free concert open to the public at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Ten young pianists between the ages of 8 and 23 will compete for the opportunity to be the featured soloist in a piano concerto with the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon. Call 261-0628.


  • ScienceWorks Hands-on Museum, 1500 E. Main St., Ashland, has a new exhibit from the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland. The exhibit, "Every Body Eats," — presented in English and Spanish — examines information about the food we eat. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7.50, $5 for kids 2-12 and seniors over 65. See scienceworksmuseum.org or call 482-6767.
  • Cycle Analysis sponsors mountain bike rides are for all ages and abilities at 6 p.m. Wednesdays. The rides begin at Cycle Analysis, 535 N. Fifth St., Jacksonville and include the John's Peak trail system. Every ride ends with free refreshments. Helmets and lights are required.
