What to Do


  • Families with children 5 and older are invited to a free sampler concert featuring 18-year-old Camden Shaw at 10:30 a.m. today at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater, 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. Shaw makes his Rogue Valley debut playing Dvorak's Cello Concerto. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., when Larry's Music will provide an "Instrument Petting Zoo." No tickets are needed, open seating.
  • ScienceWorks celebrates its "Hi-Five Birthday Bash" this weekend. The doors will open to the community with a free weekend. "Sportsology" returns with the Wheelchair Racer, Hang Time and Vertical Vault, giving participants a chance to test their strength, endurance and flexibility in this full-body exhibit experience. Today, the celebration will include wandering performer "Not your Average Joe" Mishkin from 1 to 4 p.m., face painting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., crafts throughout the day and birthday cake at 2 p.m. with ice cream donated by Umpqua Dairy. On Sunday, the party continues with face painting from noon to 2 p.m., balloon creations with Clark Z., hands-on crafts, and birthday cake and ice cream from Umpqua Dairy at 2 p.m. ScienceWorks is at 1500 East Main near Walker in Ashland.   • Youngsters and their caregivers will find activities that educate and entertain at Kids' Imagination Discovery Place, 226 N. Ross Lane, Medford. The Discovery Place offers a kid's grocery store, construction zone, "Into the Woods" section, Water Works section, art space, kid's medical center, toddler town and the outdoor space, along with a full-service cafe. Most activities are free with admission. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 children, $2 adults.   • The ArchaeologyFest Film Series presents its most popular film, "Tibet Tibet" at 7:30 tonight at Southern Oregon University's Meese Auditorium, in the Center for Visual Arts, just off Indiana Street, near Siskiyou Boulevard, Ashland. In "Tibet Tibet," a filmmaker searches for meaning and identity in the Tibetan high country. Cost is $6 at the door, with free admission for children 12 and under. Players of all ages are welcome to join the Ashland Scrabble Club from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Inner Child Cafe, 310 Oak St., Ashland. Scrabble games are free. Admission to the Inner Child Cafe is $4 for children 12 and under. Free for adults. Call 482-9453


Children's story sessions are offered at 6 p.m. Mondays and 11 a.m. Wednesdays at the Medford Library, 205 S. Central Ave., Medford; and at 6:30 p.m. Monday, 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the Ashland Library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. The Ashland High School Winter 2008 Fine Arts Festival will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the Ashland High School Mountain Avenue Theater, 201 S. Mountain Ave. The student art show, silent auction and pre-show cafe open at 6 p.m. both nights. Student performances begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10, $5 for students. The cafe is $7.
