Tasting notes: Bloomsbury; Talent Cafe
Bloomsbury Coffee House
Cuisine and scene: Locals' hideaway discreetly tucked above Bloomsbury Books or accessed off quiet Enders Alley. Expansive patio has higgledy-piggledy plantings around a soothing fountain. Inside, well-worn chintz wing chairs appeal to bookish customers lingering over coffee and favorite tomes.

Alternative diets: Vegetarian sandwiches and burritos in addition to the salads; some organic ingredients and beverages; dairy substitutes available.
Beverages: Coffeehouse standards, including specialty coffees, teas, hot chocolate, sodas, milkshakes, smoothies and "frappathingies."
Price range: Sandwiches, $3.25 to $9.25; burritos, $5.50 to $6.50; salads, $5.75 to $9.50; soups, $4.50 to $5.75.
Extras: Browse Bloomsbury's shelves with beverage in hand, but don't bring unpurchased bookstore merchandise into the cafe; grab-and-go snacks include pastries, yogurt, fresh fruit and hard-boiled eggs.

Cuisine and scene: Neighborhood favorite adds a splash of sophistication to its small-town sensibility. Formerly inside a remodeled gas station, the cafe moved this year to a shiny, new strip mall. Jewel-toned walls are accented with the owner's original art, brass chandeliers, mismatched wooden chairs, bright brocade cloths and a comfy couch. As eclectic as the cafe's decor are its diverse dishes, from corned beef hash to chilaquiles, from patty melts to tilapia tacos.
Recommended: Mediterranean omelet with artichoke hearts, feta cheese, tomatoes and Kalamata olives; hashbrowns stuffed with grilled vegetables and cheese and topped off with an egg; house-baked cranberry-hazelnut bread; salads with homemade dressing; inventive items from the daily specials board.
Alternative diets: Vegetarian dishes include a tofu-veggie scramble, Gardenburger, "veggie supreme" sandwich; some organic and gluten-free items and ingredients.
Beverages: Speciality coffees, teas, juices and sodas.
Price range: Breakfast, $5.75 to $11.25; sandwiches, $7.50 to $11.50; salads, $6.75 to $11.50; soups, $5.25 to $6.75.
Extras: Both breakfast and lunch are served all day, but some items sell out early; free wireless Internet.
Serving: 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily.
