Tasting Notes: Boulevard Coffee
Cuisine and scene: Expansive views of Grizzly Peak and a bird's-eye perch for watching passersby await guests at this upscale coffeehouse with picture windows and soaring ceiling. Numerous stools ranged around a bar-height counter face the Cascade foothills on one side, Ashland's main drag on the other. A few armchairs and low tables complement more standard cafe seating. The small menu of soups, salads and sandwiches gets a boost from eclectic daily specials.
Recommended: Any of the $6 daily lunch specials, including chicken tikka masala on brown rice, Greek chicken wrap, turkey panini and chopped salad; also unusual gelato flavors from Mamma Mia Gelateria in Jacksonville.
Alternative diets: Vegetarian sandwich and burrito, some vegan and gluten-free baked goods.
Beverages: Wide assortment of specialty coffees, brewed from locally roasted Noble beans; blended drinks, shakes and teas; bottled natural sodas; bottled organic juices; organic chocolate milk; bottled Caldera Brewing Co. beers; local and other domestic wines by the bottle only.
Price range: Soups, $3 to $5; salads, $4 to $6; sandwiches and burritos, $4.50 to $7; baked goods, $2 to $3.25; yogurt and gelato, $2 to $4.25.
Extras: Free wireless Internet; free delivery from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on orders over $20 (five-drink minimum on beverage-only deliveries); otherwise $2 delivery charge.
