It's a football party, Alamo Bowl-style
Holy guacamole, Batman! Better line up those avocados now.
Because a vast number of Oregon State Beavers fans won't be hanging out in San Antonio's Alamodome this Saturday, there's going to be a huge Pacific Northwest contingency on the outside looking in, ready to party Alamo Bowl-style.
So whether you're hosting an event or contributing edibles to someone else's, chances are the theme most are shooting for is "Southwest." I've opened up my files and pulled out some of my favorites within this delectable genre.
Even if you aren't into football, there's a good chance that between now and New Year's, you'll be providing some sort of munchie for a holiday event. With that in mind, these noshes are just the ticket.
My Nachos Appetizer with chorizo and ground beef is a slightly more robust take on the popular, multilayered, "Tex-Mex" dip. The Southwest Quiche Appetizer evokes chilies rellenos. And aside from frying the tortillas, what could be simpler than Tostaditas With Cheese?
Although gazpacho is from Spain, once it crossed the Atlantic, we all embraced it and sort of repackaged it as an American Southwest kind of specialty. To jazz up the presentation for a party, place a pot of the soup out on the buffet table, surrounded by small bowls of recommended garnishes so folks can fine-tune their own servings.
Bon appetit, happy new year — and GO BEAVS!
