Gary and Nancy Payton
Gary and Nancy Payton of Trail celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 19, 2015.
Gary Payton married Nancy Adams June 19, 1965, in Palo Alto, Calif. They have two children, Greg Payton (wife Heather) of Tualatin, and Julie Moody (husband Bruce) of Wilsonville, and five grandchildren, Davis and Andrew Payton, and Carter, Landon and Quinn Moody.
The couple met at Newark High School in Newark, Calif., where they both started their teaching careers.
Gary grew up in Fremont, Calif., graduating from Washington Union High School class of 1957, and from San Jose State with a master's degree in physical education.
Nancy moved to Medford in time to attend first grade at Roosevelt Elementary School. She is a 1958 graduate of Medford Senior High School, attended Willamette University for two years before graduating from Oregon State University in 1962 with a degree in business education.
After they married, they lived in Fremont, where they raised their two children. Nancy feels fortunate to have been a stay-at-home mother, and she returned part-time to teaching after the children were grown.
Gary retired after 35 years as a teacher, coach and counselor at Newark High School. In retirement the couple moved to Trail so they could live near the Rogue River.
They began their 50th anniversary celebration with a cruise in March through Princess Cruise Lines. They are continuing their celebration at different venues with family and friends local and out-of-town.
Their church has always been a big part of the couple's lives. They enjoy their hobbies, and enjoy hosting gatherings at their home year-round.
