Sixty-five years ago, Ernest Will Templin and Ramona Pearl Sweet were married on a rainy December evening at St. Michael’s and All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Portland.

Ernest, known as Bill to family and friends, and Ramona met at Oregon State College in Corvallis in 1946. They were married in 1950 and lived in Roseburg where Bill worked for Trowbridge Electric Company, and Ramona was a legal secretary for the district attorney of Douglas County. In 1951, Bill was called into the Air Force, and they spent the next four years in Mississippi, Puerto Rico, Kansas and England. Bill flew as an electronic countermeasures officer on a B-50 reconnaissance bomber for the Strategic Air Command and later became an instructor at Biloxi, Miss.

The next 50-plus years were spent in Southern California where Bill worked for Hughes Aircraft Company, initially in Culver City, Calif., then in Fullerton, Calif., where he retired after 31 years. Ramona also worked at Hughes Aircraft Company for three years before becoming a stay-at-home mom for their two children. After the children were in school, she did volunteer work for her church, sorority, philanthropic, civic and Republican Party groups.

In 2005, they returned to their Oregon roots and moved to Rogue Valley Manor where they have enjoyed playing bridge and many other activities. Bill served as Rogue Valley Manor Residents Council president and also as chair of Memory Care volunteers for several years. Ramona was editor of Rogue Valley Manor's Hill Topics newsletter for several years and is currently chair of the Facilities Advisory Committee. They have also been active in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and have both served as vestry.
