Religion briefs: Friday, June 3

Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church

Great Vespers begins at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Archangel Gabriel Orthodox Church, in the Shoppes at Exit 24, 205 Fern Valley Road, Suite Z, Phoenix. Matins begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, June 5, with Sunday school for children during Matins. Divine Liturgy starts about 9:20 a.m., with a potluck meal afterward. 

Midday prayers continue at 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday. Weekday Vespers will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, with Divine Liturgy at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, June 9. For more information call Father Andreas Blom at 541-690-8822.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church

Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday, June 5, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 140 N. Oakdale Ave., Medford. At 9:15 a.m. in the parish hall, the Rev. Ascension Lutheran Church

Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 5, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 675 Black Oak Dr., Medford. Music will be provided by the Grace Notes Bell Choir. The church is hosting the Rogue Ringers in a handbell concert at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

Medford Christian Science Church

Medford Christian Science Church and Reading Room is now located at 111 Genessee St., Medford. Sunday service and school is held at 10 a.m., and Wednesday testimony meetings are at 7:30 p.m. The Reading Room is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays. Medford Congregational United Church of Christ

The Rev. Kurt Katzmar will preach at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 5, at Medford Congregational United Church of Christ, 1801 E. Jackson St., Medford. Communion will be served. Church school for youth ages kindergarten to middle school is offered during the service.

“Embracing an Alternative Orthodoxy: Richard Rohr on the Legacy of St. Francis” will be the topic of an adult study at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in Lidgate Hall. Center for Spiritual Living Rogue Valley

The Rev. First Presbyterian Church, Central Point

The church will hold a potluck luncheon and Youth Auction following the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday, June 5, at First Presbyterian Church, 456 W. Pine St., Central Point. All proceeds from the auction go toward sending youth delegates to the Presbyterian Triennium at Purdue University in July. Sunday school and child care are provided. First Presbyterian Church, Medford

Pastor Murray Richmond’s message is “The Power of Compassion” for both the 8:30 a.m. informal service and 10:30 a.m. traditional service Sunday, June 5, at First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Trinity Episcopal Church

On the occasion of the 2016 season opening of the outdoor Allen Theater at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Ashland’s “Feast of Will,” Trinity Episcopal Church will present a public offering, the Elizabethan Eucharist, at 7 p.m. Monday, June 6, at the church, 44 N. Second St., Ashland. There will be a Holy Communion service according to the 1559 "Book of Common Prayer," with an abridged sermon from the 1562 Tudor "Book of Homilies" in period vestments with choral selections from William Byrd's "Mass for Three Voices."
