Rogue Gorge Hike

Sunday, Aug. 7: KS Wild will lead a moderately easy hike down the dramatic Rogue Gorge, where the Rogue River passes through a narrow basalt passage. Bill Sullivan writing seminar

Monday, Aug. 8: Hiking author William Sullivan will give an outdoor writing seminar at the Grants Pass library from 9 to 11 a.m. Sullivan will focus on creative nonfiction aspects of outdoor writing. Come with a pencil and notebook. Email gabe@siskiyoumountainclub.org to sign up.

Fly casting at Hedrick Middle School

Mondays: Otis Swisher and John MacDiarmid of the Rogue Fly Fishers will teach people how to cast with a fly rod Mondays from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hedrick Middle School, 1501 E. Jackson St., Medford. Both beginners and seasoned casters who want to practice are welcome. Free. No casting on rain days or holidays.

Lithia Park nature walks

Through September: Each Sunday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m., trained naturalists from Ashland Parks and Recreation will lead an easy 90-minute nature walk through Lithia Park, rain or shine. The free walks touch on trees, flowers, birds, climate, water, geology and history of the park. Meet at the park entrance across from the Plaza in Ashland. No reservations required.

Boulder Creek: Chetco Dreams

Saturday-Wednesday, Aug. 27-31: Camp four nights at a dreamy spot on the Chetco River and work side by side with Siskiyou Mountain Club interns to finish restoring Upper Chetco Trail 1102 from Boulder Creek to Cedar Camp. A van will leave Ashland at 6 a.m. Aug. 27, with rendezvous options in Medford, Grants Pass, Selma and Brookings. Group will return by 6 p.m. Aug. 31. This trip is moderate to difficult. The camping is stunning and the work is meaningful, and when the group is finished, we'll have another arm that connects to the Lilla and John Leach Memorial Loop. Bike the Rogue

Saturday, Sept. 10: The seventh annual event in Gold Beach features three bike routes, including 62.5 miles, 40 miles and 25 miles. All three routes follow the Rogue River and two of them, the metric century and 40-miler rides, both include seven miles along the ocean. The rides start and finish at Buffington Park. Easy pace Wild Rogue backpack

Saturday-Tuesday, Sept. 17-20: Siskiyou Mountain Club will lead a 25-mile hike through the heart of the Wild Rogue Wilderness over four days. Day one will include drive to Maria and hike 8 easy miles along the Wild Rogue to Clay Hill. Day 2 hike will ascend 3,500 feet over 4.25 miles through oak savanna and primeval old growth to Panther Ridge. Day 3 hike along Panther Ridge to the headwaters of Mule Creek, and day 4 hike will descend through dreamy gorges back to Marial. Participants must be in good shape but don't need to be fast hikers.
