Gary and Louise Sprague

Gary and Louise Sprague celebrated their 50th anniversary Sunday, Sept. 3. The have been celebrating their anniversary all summer long with trips to the Oregon coast and to the East Coast in their motor home. Their marriage was celebrated on Aug. 12 with a weekend of family and friend gatherings hosted by their children.

The couple was married on September 3, 1967, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Whittemore, Iowa. Gary grew up near Des Moines IA, and went on to earn degrees in chemistry and teaching. He finished his Master’s degree and then served four years in the Air Force. He retired in 2001 from the Medford School District where he taught chemistry and astronomy, and served as Planetarium Director at North Medford High School. He has served for several years as a Jacksonville Forest Park volunteer, developing hiking trails and bridges.

Louise also grew up in Iowa and attended school in Des Moines, where they met at Grand View College in 1963. She is a Registered Nurse who recently retired from Providence Home Health. She also spent many years working in the area of maternal and child health, as labor and delivery nurse at both local hospitals and the Medford Women’s Clinic. Lousie also taught Lamaze childbirth classes, and managed the WIC program at the Jackson Co. Health Department. Gary and Louise are now looking forward to more freedom to travel.

Gary and Louise are parents to three sons, Mark, David, and Michael, and have six grandchildren.
