Rogue Valley Farm to School gets boost

Rogue Valley Farm to School educates children about our food system through hands-on farm and garden programs, and by increasing local foods included in school meals.

Recently, two Ashland State Farm agents — Jon Snowden and Jacob Finch — donated $500 each to the Ashland Kiwanis Club, which in turn donated the $1,000 to the Rogue Valley Farm to School organization.

You might have heard of Rogue Valley Farm to School in recent weeks. It partnered with Fry Family Farm to feed families in our local communities. In this time of hardship, farmers needed to sell their products, and families desperately needed access to healthful produce.

Over the last 12 weeks, Rogue Valley Farm to School and Fry Family Farm distributed 24,000 boxes of fresh, locally grown organic fruits and vegetables to families in need. The effort was part of the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program, and was made possible by a contract with the USDA.
