Ashland CERT to hold mock disaster training Saturday

The Ashland Community Emergency Response Team will cap two weeks of training with a mock disaster incident and response, scheduled 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at 90 Mountain Ave.

The staged event will be based on the response to an earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone.

Trainees will work the scene to apply coursework skills, including disaster medical operations, fire suppression, hazardous response and search and rescue.

Ashland’s CERT program has trained more than 785 volunteers to be better prepared to survive a disaster, making Ashland’s program one of the most successful in the nation. CERT has been mobilized 34 times for activities ranging from managing emergency shelters to evacuating residents during wildfires.
