Medford Police identified a suspect late Saturday in an alleged homicide at a residence in the 800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, and they said he might be headed to California.

Police say Cristian Lamberto Barboza-Valerio, 21, might be driving to Yuba City, California, or Pittsburg, California, where he has ties.

Barboza-Valerio is possibly driving a white 2007 Chevy Silverado, with California plate 29680A2, according to the Medford Police Department Facebook page.

Police responded at 12:36 p.m. Saturday to the Pennsylvania Avenue residence after a report of an assault with a firearm. Police earlier said the suspect, who is known to the victim, had fled the scene.

“The victim was beyond help and pronounced deceased,” according to the police department.

The identity of the victim has not been released by authorities. Detectives continue to actively investigating the case and are being assisted by the Oregon State Police Crime lab and the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.

In 2021, Medford Police investigated seven homicides, all of which resulted in an arrest, the department also pointed out.
