Autopsy planned for man found in Rogue River
An autopsy was expected to be conducted Tuesday for a 59-year-old man found dead in the Rogue River over the weekend, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department said.
The agency said it doesn’t think the man drowned, saying it believed the man suffered a medical event.
“It’s more of a medical examiner investigation, because we’re not looking at it as a boating death at this point,” said Jackson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Julie Denney. “He just happened to be boating at the time.”
The man was spotted at 1:49 p.m. Saturday just downstream from Dodge Bridge, Denney said. A caller reported seeing a man floating face down in the water. The man had been in an inflatable kayak. A sergeant performed CPR until a medical team arrived. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
