Dr. Donald Andrew Walker
A memorial gathering for friends and relatives to celebrate the life of Donald Andrew Walker will be held at the Mountain Meadows Clubhouse on August 13, at — p.m.
Don was born in Fernie, BC, Canada in 1923, the second child of Andrew Leslie Walker and Mariah Pethwick Macleod Walker. In 1942, following a year at the University of British Columbia Agricultural College, Don joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving from 1942 until 1945 in England; flying Lancaster Bombers in sorties over Germany. Upon his return to Canada, Don attended the University of Western Ontario, graduating in Medicine in 1950.
While completing his Internship at the Vancouver General Hospital, Don met Elspeth Mair Evans a fellow intern recently arrived from England. Don and Elspeth married in November 1952, settling in Vernon, BC, where he practiced as a family physician and later trained in Anesthesia before immigrating to California in 1959. He became Chief of Anesthesia at Ralph K. Davies Medical Center in San Francisco and lived for many years in Tiburon, California before retiring to Ashland, Oregon in 1993.
He is survived by his wife, sister, Janet Berton of Toronto, Canada, and four children, Andrew Walker of Woodland Calif., Megan Walker Straight of Vancouver, Canada, David Walker of London, England, Dilys Walker Bertozzi of Cuernavaca, Mexico, and 11 loving grandchildren.
Don enjoyed tennis, running, gardening, folk dancing, and playing the recorder. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving and grateful family on July 26, 2005.
A private family memorial has been arranged. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Trinity Respite Center, Ashland.
