Thomas D. Gettling

Thomas D. Gettling was born in Eagle, Idaho on March 15, 1921 to Edward and Ninabell Gettling. He died peacefully at the home of his son with his family at his side. Tom grew up in the Rogue Valley, graduating from Ashland High School in 1939. On , he married Louise Whitney. They had two children. Tom served his country during both World War II and Korea, teaching gunnery for the U.S. Army Air Force, he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the Army, he started Alpine Meat Co. with a copartner where he was well known for his sausages. Later he worked for Quality Feed.

Tom had a lifelong interest in anything related to horses. For 53 years he belonged to the Josephine County Sheriff&

39;s Posse and Oregon Association of Mounted Police. He enjoyed riding in Showdeo drill teams, participating in play day events, riding on many state trail rides, and swapping stories with good friends throughout Oregon.

Working at the Fair was a job he looked forward to every summer. He could be found taking tickets, parking cars on horseback and gathering animals for Kiddie Playland. Following his retirement from Carnation Feed and Seed in 1986, he could often be found with his cronies on sale day at 4 Corners Auction looking for horses and tack for his business, Tom&

39;s Tack.

Tom is survived by his son, William Gettling of Medford and Sue Irwin of Junction City. Also surviving are two brothers, Marvin (Bud) Gettling of Talent and Charles Gettling of Seattle, Washington. He had five grandchildren, Cindy Jesky, Chris Irwin, Carlye Irwin, Scott Gettling and Kami Monk, plus five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, and a brother, Donald.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 25 at Hull & Hull Funeral Home in Grants Pass. A reception for family and friends to celebrate his life will follow at the Flower Building located at the Josephine County Fairgrounds. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Asante Hospice, 2825 East Barnett Rd., Medford, Oregon 97504. The family would like to thank the employees of Asante Hospice for the loving care Tom received.

Kathryn Ann Kuehner

Kathryn, age 66, of Decorah, Iowa, died on March 13, 2006. Services were held on March 16 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa.
