Rita TenEyck Free

8/1/1920-2/19/2006

Rita will be remembered as a daring spirit whether rafting the rapids of the mighty Colorado River or the adventures of driving solo from New York to San Diego to start a new chapter in her life. Always looking for a new challenge, she determined to master each task, including proficiency in computer operations, literary writings, office management, but was willing to operate a hot dog cart to make ends meet.

In San Diego she met and married the love of her life Dr. Jack Free. They traveled and explored many places prior to becoming residents of Ashland, Oregon in 1990.

Rita, the lady with "Hat-titude," is described by friends and family as: "loving, intelligent, generous, outrageous, thoughtful, one in a million, spunky, vibrant, adventuruous, of great humor, and a ray of sunshine."

Letters of love and admiration from cousins and nieces recall times of joy they shared with Rita. She gave them wise counsel, inspiration, introduced them to the theatre and good books, and generously supported their endeavors.

As a member of MENSA, Sr. Aces and numerous book clubs, she engaged in lively and thought provoking discussions and encouraged others to do so.

Survivors include her "baby" brother Bob, wife Jill, and her beloved nieces and cousins. She is fondly remembered by neighbors and friends and will be sorely missed by life-long friend Gloria and surrogate daughter Candy.

A quote from her office sums up her life and legend "In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different."

A celebration of her life will be held April 8, 2006 at the Mt. Meadows Clubhouse from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
