Eldon Sigford Davenport

Eldon Sigford Davenport, 80, of Medford, died April 2, 2006 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Memorial services will be Thursday, April 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army Chapel, 304 Beatty Street, Medford. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Salvation Army Corps or Rogue Valley Dialysis Center.

Mr. Davenport was born April 24, 1925 in Santa Ana, Calif. a son of Henry and Lora Davenport and the youngest of nine children. He married Jo Eileen Baney on June 19, 1947 in Santa Ana, Calif. Eldon was an honored veteran of WWII serving in the 763rd Tank Battalion of the US Army. His was the first tank to land on Okinawa. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He worked 43 years in the newspaper production business, the last eighteen years as production director at the Medford Mail Tribune. He was a lifetime member of the Salvation Army and a former bandmaster.

He is survived by his wife, Jo of Medford; sons, Timothy and his wife, Joyce, Gary and his wife, Patti; sister, Melba Marr; brother, Jerry; grandchildren, Todd, Trevor and Stacy; and one great-grandchild, Alex.
