Edward Franklin Smith

Edward Franklin Smith, 94, passed away in Medford on March 31, 2006. Memorial services will be conducted at 11 o'clock, April 10, 2006 in the Memory Gardens Chapel, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, Ore. Pastor Bill Gallagher of Cornerstone Christian Church, Medford, Ore. will conduct the service.

Edward was born in Centerville, now Fremont, Calif. on December 7, 1911, to Frank and Mary Simas Smith. He worked for Wedgewood Stove Factory in Newark, Calif. and for the Naval Ship Yards during WWII. He retired in 1978 from Fremont Unified School District where he worked as a custodian for 20 and 2/3rds years.

Throughout his life he enjoyed gardening, landscaping, his bird aviary and pigeons as well as foul hunting with his springer spaniel, coin and stamp collecting, and teaching Sunday School to junior high children. He loved to play with the children and to watch them play.

Edward married Clarine E. Stevens in 1935. They divorced in 1943. In 1944, he married Deolinda M. Silva. They were members of the Assembly of God Church in Newark, Calif. In 1991 they moved to Medford, Ore.

He is survived by his wife, Deolinda; and children, John Smith of Antioch, Calif., Joseph Smith of Jamestown, Calif. and daughter, Patricia Miller of Medford. He had six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and two extended family daughters, Pamela Freitas of Medford, Ore. and Tamara Saba of Mesa, Ariz.

Memorials can be sent to the Benevolent Fund, Cornerstone Christian Church, 608 N. Bartlett, Medford, Ore. Arrangements by Memory Gardens Mortuary.
