Donna E. Underwood

Donna Elizabeth Underwood, age 84, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 25, 2006 in the home she shared with Bill, her husband of 59 years, surrounded by family. A native Medford, Oregonian, Donna graduated from Medford High School in 1940. She attended the University of Portland and received her Bachelor's of Nursing in 1944. Donna worked at the Veterans Administration in White City for 20 years before retiring in 1983. Relocating to Payson, Arizona with Bill in 1986, they enjoyed new adventures and friends before returning to the Rogue Valley in 2002.

Donna was a skilled crafter - always working with her hands on projects such as wildflower pressing, embroidery, knitting, sewing and the most beloved and treasured legacy, her hand-woven pine needle baskets. Donna won several awards for her art and received local notoriety in the Payson, Arizona daily newspaper. Her love for nature leaves an abundance of memories for her husband, children and grandchildren. Stories of morel mushroom hunting, wildflower and huckleberry picking adventures will be shared time and time again. Donna also enjoyed traveling and shared journeys to Egypt and Japan with her husband.

Donna made friends wherever she went and will be missed more than words can ever express. She is survived by her husband, Bill; three children, Laurie Anne Dalton, Tim Underwood and Linda McFadden; son-in-law, Roger McFadden; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Prince, Jennifer Lynne Dater, Grant Ryder and Joseph Ryder; five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Woods, Jarrett Prince, Colton Ryder, Samuel William Dater and Luke Ryder; and one beloved pet, "Annie," a 14-year old yellow Labrador retriever. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael William Underwood.
