Eugene Morris Olmstead
Eugene Morris Olmstead was born to Burton and Ella Olmstead on May 29, 1913 in Garry, New York and died at 92 years of age on April 6, 2006 in Medford, Oregon. Gene is survived by his wife, Esther L. Olmstead, 90 years old, whom he married in Reno, Nevada on August 4, 1944. They were married for 61 years and have eight children, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Gene was the youngest of eleven children, two girls and nine boys, who are all deceased.
Gene worked for the government in construction as a carpenter, building barracks, oil derricks and other necessary jobs during World War II. After the war he continued to work as a construction foreman in the Carpenter's Union in Southern California for over 50 years until he retired to Talent, Oregon in 1980.
His faith was an important part of his life, belonging to the Pentecostal Church of God. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to camp, hunt, and fish. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, working his land and caring for his animals on his ranch in Talent.
