Jean Ann Engleson, 77, of Medford, died April 7, 2006 at Rogue Valley Medical Center surrounded by her husband and family.
Mrs. Engleson was born to George and Ella Torgerson on January 30, 1929 in Strum, Wis., and grew up in various towns in rural Minnesota. She graduated salutatorian of her high school. In 1951, Jean received her Bachelor of Arts in Homemaking and Fine Arts from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
In December 1951, Jean married Dr. David Engleson in Benson, Minn. The Englesons moved to Medford in 1958 to raise their five sons and one daughter.
Jean was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, where she was organist and choir accompanist from 1959 to 1987. Her other community activities included: Community Concert Drive Chair, The Hillcrest Cancer Committee, member and past president of Jackson County Junior League, Chapter CP of the PEO Sisterhood, and member and past president of Rogue Valley Country Club Women's Golf Association.
Jean enjoyed arts and crafts, music, golf and playing bridge with her friends. She produced a proliferation of arts and crafts throughout her life, including portraiture, stoneware figurines, rosemaling, program covers and posters, handcrafted cards and more.
In addition to her husband, David, Jean is survived by sons, Paul of Leesburg, Va.; Joel and wife, Vickie of Medford; Leo and wife, Julie of Medford; Ned of Portland; daughter, Jill and husband, Gary of Bend; and grandchildren, Ashley, Carley, Niles, Leslie, Sam, Andrea, Sofie and Jonah. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Don Torgerson, and her beloved son, Dean.
A memorial service for Jean will be held Wednesday, April 12th at 1:00 pm at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2617 E. Barnett Rd., Medford. Memorial contributions may be made to Ascension Lutheran Church Youth Program, PO Box 1606, Medford, Oregon, 97501.
