Kathryn C. McFarland Fowler

Kathryn C. McFarland Fowler

Kathryn C. McFarland Fowler of Medford was welcomed home by her Lord at the age of 82 on the evening of Friday, April 7, 2006.

Kathryn was born in Chamberlain, South Dakota on November 7, 1923 and was raised near Kyle, South Dakota. She married Billie Earl McFarland in Newcastle, Wyoming at the age of 17.

With her husband in the service during WWII, Kathryn moved with her mother, brother, sister-in-law and son, Bill, to California in 1943. After the war, Kathryn and Billie welcomed their second son, Charles, and their daughter, Carolyn. Kathryn returned to school, graduating from college in 1964. She became a very gifted teacher, a mother-daughter tradition she began that has carried through three generations.

Kathryn moved to the Rogue Valley with her second husband, Clinton H. Fowler, in 1992. She became very involved with her church and her neighborhood. She enjoyed the sunrises over Roxy Ann, visits with the Amblegreen ladies, and get togethers with friends for Bible study.

A three time survivor of cancer, Kathryn was preceded in death by parents, Lee and Hazel Swett and husbands, Billie Earl McFarland and Clinton H. Fowler. She is survived by her brother, Max Swett of Lakewood, Calif.; nephew, Calvin McFarland and wife, Marilyn of Medford, Ore.; children, Bill McFarland and wife, Kathy of Ventura, Calif.; Charles McFarland and wife, Pat of Medford, Ore., Carolyn Ernst and husband, Jerry of Huntington Beach, Calif., Clint Fowler, Jr., and wife, Kristin of Tigard, Ore., Deborah Hess and husband, Roy of Lakewood, Calif., Andrea Halberg and husband, Roy of LaVerne, Calif., and Jonnye Guerrero and husband, Armando of Mexico City, Mexico; as well as, 15 grandchildren and — great-grandchildren.

Kathryn was a kind, supportive, and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher who always saw the bright side of life. Her love of family and her Lord formed the foundation of her life and will continue to be the inspiration for our family.

Services for Kathryn will be held on Wednesday, April 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2000 Oakwood Dr., Medford, Ore. A gravesite service will be held at a later date in Cypress, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church in care of Youth for Christ or the Food Pantry.
