Margaret A. McGinty

Margaret A. McGinty

Margaret McGinty, 81, of Medford died peacefully April 6, 2006 in San Diego, Calif. with family at her side. A memorial service will be held April 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Westminister Presbyterian with Alan Jackson officiating.

She was born in Roseburg, Ore. as a third generation Oregonian, as Margaret A. Shellabarger. She was raised in a small cabin above Susan Creek Falls off the Umpqua River. She moved to the valley as a young girl and went to Jacksonville High School where she met her husband, Edward McGinty. After he served in the Army during World War II, they built the business of McGinty Land Surveying and he later went on to serve as Jackson County Surveyor.

Margaret had been a Sunday School Teacher at First Presbyterian Church and a big supporter of Medford Swim Team and 4H Horse Clubs while raising her four children. She was active with the Elks Emblem Club and served as State President. In her later years she had a real passion for golf and played with the ladies of the Rogue Valley Country Club and Quail Point.

Everyone will miss her energetic smile, spunky personality and miss seeing her on the golf course.

Margaret is survived by her children, Edward A. McGinty, Jr., Livermore, Calif., Linda L. Groarke, Marion, Mont., Donna M. O'Grady, Medford, and Cheryl McGinty, Medford; brothers, Cliff Shellabarger and Loren Shellabarger; sisters, Mildred Lamke and Sharon Chase; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and her parents, Hugh and Lola Shellabarger.
