Agnes O. Scarvie

Agnes Winifred Oliver Scarvie went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2006. She was 94 years old. Agnes was born May 27, 1911, in Packwood, Iowa, to Veva McClain Oliver and Ned G. Oliver. At — years of age she lost her hearing, and attended 8 years of public school with the lip-reading tutoring of her mother. Then Agnes attended the Iowa School for the Deaf (ISD) during her high school years. While there she met Norman G. Scarvie and later married him. They had two children, Oliver Scarvie of Medford, Oregon and Norma Jean Boren of Nashville, Indiana. She has seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Agnes was a homemaker when she went to work at the Howard Manufacturing Plant during WW II and then went to ISD as a teacher. She taught at ISD for 28 years and was one of the persons responsible for the Jr.-Sr. trips to Gallaudet College. She loved her work at ISD and loved the deaf children, also. She was preceded in death by her husband and her two sisters.
