Geraldine Mary Poletto

Geraldine "Geri" Mary Poletto

Geraldine "Geri" Mary Poletto passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006, at Providence Hospital in Medford.

Her family was by her side, sons, Denis & Bob, daughter Claudia, daughter-in-law Karen, grandson Andrew, sister, Diane Moore and sister-in-law, Loraine Mendoza

Born in Oakland, Calif, September 5, 1925, she was lovingly raised by her Aunt and Uncle Viola and Steve Bouras, whom she always loved and considered her parents.

Geri's most vivid and happy memories of childhood were of growing up in Gurneville, Calif, where her parents owned a small restaurant. She spent a lot of time swimming and canoeing on the Russian River, with her big dog "Moxie." Geri loved the water and swimming throughout her entire life and as an adult, taught swimming and lifesaving.

She was also an avid skater and loved to dance. In fact, she met the love of her life and husband of 12 years, Lincoln Poletto on the dance floor of a popular night club. They developed an incredible love and he was the light of her life. They were married in Reno, Nevada in 1951, and shared a life together until his passing from cancer in 1963.

She gave birth to — children, tragically losing one at birth.

A devoted wife and mother, Geri, with the aid of her Mother, selflessly took care of Lincoln at home during his final months of life battling cancer, all the while keeping her — young children well cared for and cheerful.

When she was widowed, she dedicated her life to raising her — kids as a single parent and gave them the best life she could. Her love and admiration for her deceased husband was so great she had no desire to remarry and remained single the rest of her life.

She moved her family to Oregon in 1969 to provide them with a better life, and to be near her brother and sisters, and lived here ever since. Geri worked as a cashier at Payless, then Bi-Mart, retiring from there after 18 years of service.

Geri was an awesome grandma, and adored her 2 grandons, Scott and Andrew.

Besides dancing and swimming, Geri loved dogs and dog training, drawing, landscaping and clowns. She liked to dress up like a hobo-style clown and volunteer to entertain at schools and children's birthday parties. She had a great sense of humor just like her brothers and sisters, and was always "cracking jokes" and keeping people laughing.

Immediate family members that preceeded her in death include her husband Lincoln Poletto, brothers, Dennis Mason and Bill Mendoza, sister, Bobbie Berry and brothers-in-law Gerry Moore, Joe Baugh and Bill Cook.

Along with numerous thoughtful, caring relatives and friends, she is survived by her — children, Denis, Claudia and Bob Poletto, 2 grandsons, Scott and Andrew Poletto, sisters, Jackie Soares, Grants Pass, Carol Holloway, Alameda, Calif. Diane Moore, Central Point, and sisters-in-law Lorraine Mendoza, Rogue River, Dorthy Cook, San Leandro, Calif. and Evilyn Baugh, Medford.

Geri Poletto was and is loved and missed by many people. She will always be loved and remembered in our hearts.

A graveside service will be held at noon Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Woodville Country Cemetery in Rogue River.
