Kenneth William Lapp

Kenneth William Lapp 1929-2006

Ken Lapp died at home the evening of April 12, embraced by family and friends, following a long and valiant battle with emphysema. He was 77.

Ken was born and raised in rural Saskatchewan where he started a career in broadcasting as an on-air announcer. He married and had two sons and a daughter, and ultimately became director of advertising for British Columbia Television in Vancouver. Following the death of his daughter Penny and the end of his first marriage, Ken retired and eventually relocated to Ashland. He married Nancy, his beloved wife of 21 years, in Ashland in 1985 and worked for the Medford Chamber of Commerce from 1985-1990. The couple relocated to Maui for three years, then settled in Ashland's Mountain Meadows Community. In the last few years, Ken liked nothing better than to play piano and lead friends in song, and is remembered for his good cheer, good company, his wardrobe of Hawaiian shirts, and his open welcome to new friends and old. He had a gift for turning strangers into friends.

Ken is survived by his wife Nancy Wempen of Ashland, his sons Kenneth Lapp and Robert Lapp (Joanne) of Vancouver BC, stepchildren Cami Pierce of Butte Falls and Zachary Pierce of Ashland, and 7 grandchildren in Oregon and Canada.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday June — at — pm in the Mountain Meadows Clubhouse, 855 Mountain Meadows Drive, Ashland. If you have any special memories of Ken, please write them down and send them to Nancy. The family expresses their deep gratitude to the Ashland Hospice and in lieu of flowers request memorial donations to the Hospice through the "Ashland Community Hospital Foundation," 1970 Ashland Street, Suite 1, Ashland OR 97520.
