David Donald Rist
David Donald Rist of Talent, Ore., son of Don and Judy Rist of Talent, Ore., passed away at the Ashland Hospital on May 28, 2006. David was born on April 28th, 1966 in Klamath Falls, Ore. and moved with his parents to Ashland when he was — years old. He graduated from Ashland High School in 1984, attended Southern Oregon University one year and then transferred to the University of Oregon in Eugene, graduating in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
David was a member and officer in the Delta Upsilon fraternity. David worked in Portland for approximately two years then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in April of 1991. He served a little over four years getting discharged in May of 1995. While in the Coast Guard, David attended several Military Schools, was chosen "Sailor of the Quarter" for the 1st quarter of 1994 and on behalf of his shipmates on the USCG cutter Polar Star was chosen to exchange Christmas greetings with President Clinton when the President called in December of 1994.
In additions to his parents, David is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Annie) Rist; and stepson, Alex of Reno, Nevada; sister, Rene Whyte and her husband, Greg; and two children, Sammy and Spencer of Talent, Ore.; sister, Shannon Rist of Central Point, Ore.; and special friend, Sara Dennis and her son Kyle of Talent, Ore.; his best friend and roommate in college, Chad Ferguson of Portland, Ore. Also uncles, Ted Anderson and his wife, Maggie of Ashland, Ore., Jerry and Averill Anderson of Klamath Falls, Ore., Sam Anderson of So. Padre Island, Texas, Richard and Ola Riley and Martin Riley of Humboldt, Nebraska; as well as numerous cousins in Oregon, Washington, Maryland, Virginia, Missouri and Nebraska.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 3rd at 11 a.m. at Grace Luthern Church in Ashland. There will be a private interment at the Veteran's Cemetery in Eagle Point.
