Marguerite Cherney

Marguerite Cherney passed away in her sleep on July 4, 2006.

Marguerite was born in Excelsior Springs, Mo. on November 9, 1912 to Dick and Della Dale. After high school, her family moved to Ione, Wash., where she married Jack Cherney, a Forest Service foreman at the Sullivan Lake CCC Camp and had her son, Richard. In 1940, they moved to Humboldt County, Calif., then to Johnsondale, Calif., where she was the postmaster. The family then moved to West Point, Calif., and to Hyampom, Calif., where she was bookkeeper for a sawmill for many years. Upon her retirement, she and Jack relocated to the city of Shasta Lake, Calif., where she became very active in the Moose Lodge. In May of 2005, she moved to Medford, Ore., where she was a resident of Alterra Wynwood.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her sister, Della Mae Key.

Marguerite loved to drive to see new places and old friends, to grow flowers, and no one ever left her table hungry. She took great pleasure in her activities with the Women of the Moose. She was a member of the Yakima River Primitive Baptist Church located in Milton-Freewater, Ore., the association with which was a touchstone in her life.

She is survived by her son, Richard and wife, Karin, of Jacksonville, Ore.

There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: Moose Charities, 155 S. International Dr., Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100.
