Edith "Harriett" Cornutt

Edith "Harriett" Cornutt died July 16, 2006 at her home in Medford. She was 84. She was born in Gravel Ford, Ore. on December 29, 1921 to Boyd and Belva Bruner. She was a 1939 valedictorian of Bonanza High School, Bonanza, Ore. She held a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from now Southern Oregon University, Ashland, (1967)

She married James E. Cornutt in Klamath Falls, Ore. on May 10, 1942. Their family lived at various times in: Klamath Falls, Ore.; Gold Hill, Ore.; Toketee Falls, Ore.; Moses Lake, Wash.; Central Point, Ore.; Yucca, Ariz.; Kingman, Ariz.; and Beaver Creek, Ariz. prior to returning to southern Oregon in 1993.

She taught for three years at Fruitdale Elementary School in Grants Pass, Ore., prior to moving to Yucca, Ariz., where she taught six grades in a one room school for many years. She later taught children with learning disabilities for several years in Kingman, Ariz., prior to retiring.

A talented musician, she served at various times as pianist and organist for the First Southern Baptist Church in Kingman, Ariz., the Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Rimrock, Ariz., and the Lozier Lane Baptist Church in Medford, Ore. In addition to playing the piano and organ, she frequently entertained family and friends on the accordion, keyboard, and violin.

She was a founding member of the Beaver Creek Baptist Church in Rimrock, Ariz. In her later years, she attended Ascension Lutheran Church, Medford, Ore., with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 57 years; her brother, Louis Alden Bruner; and her sister, Mary Barton. She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Jossy of Bend, Ore.; two sons, Fred B. (Ted) Cornutt of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Dennis (DJ) Cornutt of Meeker, Colo.; two daughters, Linda Sindt of Medford, Ore. and Susan Niles of Prescott, Ariz.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements will be made by Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. The funeral service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 2617 Barnett Road in Medford on Friday, July 21, at 1:00 p.m. Pastors Amanda Wilson of Ascension Lutheran Church and Pastor Mike Franell of Lozier Lane Baptist Church will officiate.
