Wallace Carlton Ransom

Wallace Carlton Ransom, 86, passed away on August 3, 2006. He was born in Brookings, Ore. on November 30, 1919 to Edwin and Frieda (Steineke) Ransom. Wallace was a member of the pioneer Ransom/Steineke families who were early settlers in the Brookings area.

Wallace served three years (1942-1945) in the Army Air Corps. He helped build the South Coast Lumber Company in 1952 where he worked for 30 years before retiring in 1982.

On December 24, 1952, Wallace married Betty Arline Russell in Brookings at their home. He lived in Brookings all his life until moving to Medford in October 2003.

Wallace is survived by one son, Edmonde Ransom (wife, Jo), Eugene; and three daughters, Deanna Murray-Bayliss (husband, Tom), Springfield, Dorothy Roach (husband, Ken), Medford, Susan Ransom, Salem; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Wallace was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, in 1981; his parents; one brother; and five sisters.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 9, 11:00 a.m. at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, Medford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Providence Hospice, P.O. Box 4548, Medford, OR 97501 or ACCESS, P.O. Box 4666, Medford, OR 97501.
