Martha Blanchard

Martha "Jane" Blanchard

Martha "Jane" Blanchard, 75, was freed from the earthly constraints of her wheelchair for eternity on August 18, 2006 at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, Ore.

Born October 31, 1930 in Camden, N.J., she was the younger of two children. She married the late Elmer "Bud" Blanchard in 1951 in Reseda, Calif. They moved to Klamath Falls, Ore. in 1959 where they raised their five children. Jane was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1978. She was a bookkeeper and business owner until her retirement in 1985. She lived in Weed, Calif., from 1991 until moving to Medford in 1996. She was a devoted mother to not only her own children but all the neighborhood children as well. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, YMCA and church activities. As the MS progressed, she became an avid reader and loved to listen to books on tape as well as never missing any sports or school activities of her grandchildren. Her kind words of encouragement and gentle manner stayed with her throughout her physical trials and she always demonstrated personal strength and was an inspiration to others. She left this life with faith knowing she was going to a better place.

Jane is survived by her brother, Joe Walmsley of Burbank, Calif, her children, Dave Blanchard of Klamath Falls, Robert Blanchard of Medford, Anita Brown of Morristown Tenn., Melissa Blanchard of Medford, and Carol Zumwalt of Weed, Calif; grandchildren, Chris Hendrix, Stephen Hendrix of Eugene, Brian Blanchard of Medford, Ben Blanchard, Emily Blanchard of Klamath Falls, James Blanchard of Grants Pass, Emma Blanchard of Eagle Point, Jason Zumwalt of Portland, Erin Zumwalt of Ashland, Casey Long of Portland, Jennifer Long of Weed, Calif; great grandchildren, Ari Hendrix and Roan Hendrix of Eugene.

The family will have a private memorial. Donations may be made as a memorial to the Jackson County Library Outreach program.
