Velma Ruby Rochelle

Velma Ruby "Val" Rochelle

With the scent of her own beloved roses lingering as she dreamed, Velma Ruby "Val" Rochelle was lifted up to God's most beautiful garden, Heaven, on October 4, 2006. Born in Eunice, Mo. on December 26, 1916, Velma was one of seven children entrusted to John and Mary Gaston.

During the mid 1940s, Velma's heart was called to San Francisco, Calif., where she met and married James Kennedy "Rocky" Rochelle in 1949. She remained in her newly adopted "home" until their retirement to Cotati, Calif. around 1980. Velma moved to Medford with her daughter, Juanita, in 2005.

Velma's deep faith as a Christian assured her that death was only the beginning of a new life that includes loved ones who have passed before her. Those preceding her in death include both parents, John and Mary Gaston; her husband, James "Rocky" Rochelle; her two daughters, Juanita Jacobson and Loretta Lerude; four brothers, Roy, Murl, Herschel and George Gaston.

Cherishing her memory and influence in their lives are nine grandchildren and their families; two granddaughters, Valerie Brown and husband, Richard Rinaldi, Renee Allen and husband, Frankie; seven grandsons, Stephen Corder and wife, Berta, Johnnie Roach and wife, Patricia, Larry Roach and wife, Cindy, Jonathon Mark Corder, Michael Roach and wife, Betty, Timothy Corder and wife, Becky, and Paul Corder and wife, Rhonda. Velma enjoyed 22 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother, Frank Gaston; sister, Theda Thomas and her son, Marvin Smith; along with several other nieces and nephews who loved and adored "Auntie Val."

Velma loved gardening and cooking, especially desserts. Her fondness for her pets is legendary among family and friends. She will always be remembered with smiles and laughter.

A celebration of her life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12th at Conger~Morris Chapel, 715 West Main, Medford. 772-7111
